Midwinter RitesDecember 25, 2007
I made this game as an entry to the TIG Source forums "Text the Halls" competition, where the idea was to make a text adventure (also known as IF or interactive fiction) with a winter/christmas theme, and I just couldn't resist joining in. I used to love playing those types of games on my Commodore 64 back in the old days, and I started writing several of my own as well, but I never really got very far on them. So for this competition, I decided to make a Commodore 64 style text adventure, and I've tried to give it an authentic look, using the same colors, font and resolutions as an actual C64. It's done in C++ using my Pixie Game Engine though, so it's not actually a real C64 game. But it looks and sounds like it is :D Big thanks to Patrik Karvonen for the excellent music! Download the game: The source code is available as well for those interested. It uses the Pixie Game Engine (included in the download) but it is somewhat messy, as I had to rush things for the deadline... Download the source code:
